2020 Young Heroes Summit

On July 28 & 29, please join us as the Barron Prize will present a virtual Young Heroes Summit that brings together past winners who will share what inspired them to begin their passion projects and will offer advice to kids hoping to make a difference. Honoring the path that the Barron Prize has forged, the Young Heroes Summit will feature group discussions focused on and commemorating STEM projects, environmental work, and humanitarian engagement. Closing out the two-day virtual summit will be a “Where Are They Now” panel comprised of some of the first Barron Prize winners, who will discuss the impact of the Barron Prize on their project and what has happened since.

Session 1

STEM and Environmental Panels

On July 28 at 1pm ET, the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes presents session 1 of the virtual Young Heroes Summit. Attendees will hear from amazing young people, who are also past Barron Prize winners, on what inspired them to begin their passion projects along with advice to kids hoping to make a difference in their own communities.

Session 1 will feature group discussions focused on and commemorating STEM projects and environmental work.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEROES include include Claire Vlases (Solar Makes Sense), Genevieve Leroux (Milkweed for Monarchs), Robbie Bond (Kids Speak for Parks), and Addy Barrett (Gorilla Heroes). The environmental panel is moderated by Shawn Henry.

STEM HEROES include Anna Du (Deep Plastics Initiative, Gitanjali Rao (Tethys Lead Detector, Kindly App), and Shreya Ramachandran (Grey Water Project). The STEM panel is moderated by Josiah Utsch.

Humanitarian and Where are They Now Panels

On July 29 at 1pm ET, the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes presents session 2 of the virtual Young Heroes Summit. Attendees will hear from amazing young people, who are also past Barron Prize winners, on what inspired them to begin their passion projects along with advice to kids hoping to make a difference in their own communities.

Session 2 will feature a group discussion focused on and commemorating humanitarian work followed by a “Where Are They Now” panel, comprised of some early Barron Prize winners, who will discuss the impact of paying it forward as a young person and their journey since.

HUMANITARIAN HEROES include Jahkil Jackson (Project I Am), Khloe Thompson (Khloe Kares), and Grace Callwood (We CanCerve Movement). The humanitarian panel is moderated by Michaella Gallina.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? features session moderators Josiah Utsch (2013 winner), Shawn Henry (2004 winner), and Michaella Gallina (2001 winner), and they are joined by Madi Vorva (2011 winner) and Ashley Shuyler Carter (2001 winner). This panel is moderated by Barron Prize executive director Barbara Ann Richman.
